Introduction

Name: Todd
Age: 20
Location: Hong Kong (until May)/United States
Are you Taiwanese, Turkestani, Mongolian or Tibetan? No, white American
If no, why are you interested in this community? I study China, ethnic politics, separatism, and Central Asia.
Are you already involved in some actions for these people? No
Tell us about you!!

I have a significant academic interest in China's frontier regions as well as Taiwan (and its unique status). Ethnic separatism both in China and Central Asia/the Caucasus interests me, and Xinjiang/East Turkestan in particular. I joined this community primarily to observe and see what information floats through it, in case it might be of use in my research and studies.

Just to be clear, I take a neutral point of view on all of this - not pro- or anti-secession/assimilation. To publicly take a position would compromise scholarly integrity. I have no love for Beijing, however.

If people would like, I can pass along scholarly articles on these things when I see them, or at least the citations so you can find them in your own university's network, since access is usually restricted.

You may find the Taiwan Documents Project interesting/useful, as long as you bear in mind the pro-independence bias.

Hey, primary sources are always welcome. In fact, I'm pretty sure I know someone who'd find that site extremely useful - thanks :-)

Welcome! Central Asia and Xinjiang sound interesting (I'm more of a Taiwan person), I look forward to hearing more from you.

Hopefully the Taiwan-interested folk like yourself will fill in gaps in my knowledge with your posts.

We can do that. The only drawback is, I've been a bit quiet lately. :/
